Sister and Brothers, There is nothing like a free meal – somebody else always pays for it. If you do not pay, then the owner of the house or the restaurant pays. Someone always has to cover the cost of the meal. The majority understand that and work hard to earn or deserve “a meal”. We would be surprised, maybe confused, or even a bit suspicious if someone offered us something for free. The Pharisees and the Scribes understood this too – nothing is free. Somebody always pays. So, they worked very hard to deserve God’s favour. They prayed a lot, studied the Scripture, fasted many times and followed very scrupulously all the laws and commandments they knew. But they could not understand why Jesus did not focus on them and why he did not favour them. People believed that Jesus was a prophet, a man sent by God. Maybe he was even the Messiah. So why did he talk to sinners? Why did he h...

2025 Jubilee Year at Kincumber

Image
During this Jubilee Year, we will light a “Candle of Hope” at all of our weekend Masses. The candles come from the event that started 24 Dec 2024 when Bishop Anthony celebrated Jubilee of Hope. Within Broken Bay, we are called to celebrate this Jubilee Year with “deep faith, lively hope and active charity”. Broken Bay has three diocesan “Jubilee Shrines of Hope” which are places of pilgrimage, worship, prayer, and hope for the people of Broken Bay during the Jubilee Year. These shrines are: The Parish of Gosford with a relic of Saint John Paul II will be a Shrine of Hope for families. The Parish of Chatswood with a relic of Blessed Carlo Acutis will be a Shrine of Hope for young people. The Parish of Manly Freshwater with a relic of Saint John Vianney will be a Shrine of Hope for priests and vocations. The 2025 Jubilee Year is an opportunity to explore the many different ways that we, as a community, can participate as Pilgrims of Hope. For more information go to Diocese Jubilee Web...
