Sisters and Brothers, Last Sunday we had a beautiful celebration, the blessing of a statue of St. Mary MacKillop and the installation of a relic of St. Peter To Rot. They are our ‘local saints, the local friends’. This weekend we are celebrating the day of All Saints. St. Peter To Rot and St. Mary MacKillop are two saints among so many. There are thousands or even millions of them. We know the names of some of them, the names of people whom the Church recognises as saints. We know names like Francis, Clare, Dominic or Joan of Arc. But there are many people who are already sharing joy with God; all the dwellers of Heaven are saints. Most of them are anonymous to us but they are well known to God. Their names are written in ‘The Book of the Living’. This first weekend of November we also celebrate The Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed, better known as the day of All Souls. Baptisms: We recently celebrated the Baptisms of Hudson and Jett at Holy Cross Church, we congratulate and warmly welcome their families to Holy Cross Parish. Please continue to keep these two families, and the families of Bronte, Arabella, Alessia, Julius, Hazel, Diamond, Isaac and Penelope who are preparing for Baptism in our parish, in your prayers. Last Sunday we hosted a Celebration Day in honour of St Peter To Rot and Saint Mary of the Cross MacKillop. We opened with a beautiful blessing ceremony of the newly installed statue of Saint Mary MacKillop, presided over by Bishop Robert McGuckin, Bishop Emeritus of Toowoomba, and the Sisters of St Joseph. We were lucky to be joined by NSW Regional Leader Sr Ann Porter, Sr Mary, and Sr Helen from the Mary MacKillop Centre. Incense, and the colours of the Papua New Guinean flag, greeted us as we moved into Holy Spirit Church to unveil a stunning portrait of St Peter To Rot, painted by Joan Sully, and to bless and install a first-class relic in his honour. The Liturgy of the Word was presented to us in Tok Pisin, the most widely spoken official language of PNG, while our musicians, Bobby, Anne-Maree, Joszef, Carmel, and Lorant, stunned with their stirring voices during Communion. We are thrilled to announce the launch of a new youth ministry program, Life Teen, set to begin on   Friday 14 November at 6:30pm in the Parish Hall .   A gold coin donation is encouraged to assist with our catering costs. Life Teen is a Eucharist-centred movement within the Roman Catholic Church that leads teenagers into a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ and His Church. It’s an opportunity for our youth to grow in their faith through dynamic lessons, fellowship, and worship at our Into Life and Life Nights.  This is a vital step in supporting our young people and strengthening our parish community. How you can help: We are currently seeking dedicated Core Team members, Parent Liaisons, and anyone keen to support this ministry through prayer, logistics and supper. We begin November with two very special days of celebration. The Church observes the Solemnity of All Saints on November 1, and on November 2, the Solemnity of the Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed. In the words of Pope Benedict XVI, these two days set the "special spiritual tone" for the month of November. "The mystery of the communion of saints illumines this month and the whole of the last part of the liturgical year in particular, directing our meditation to the earthly destiny of man in the light of Christ's Pasch," he said in 2005, speaking at the Mass for the deceased Cardinals and Bishops. "In it is founded that hope which, as St Paul said, is such that it 'will not leave us disappointed'." These days celebrate that, in the communion of saints, this is a close bond between those of us who remain on the earth and those who have already entered eternity. In November, special giving envelopes will be available in both of our Churches for families of the recently departed to offer Mass for their loved ones. All proceeds from the November masses for those in our parish who we have lost, will be sent to Papua New Guinea to support communities in need.
