Advent Reflection Week One: Hope

During Advent, let us prepare our hearts and minds to welcome Christ at Christmas. We begin by placing the first candle on our wreath, a symbol of the light of Christ entering the world and the hope we hold in His promised return. As we journey through this season, may our preparation be marked by hope, reflection, and a readiness to receive Christ anew.

Isaiah presents a powerful vision of a future where all people will come together to worship in the Temple of the Lord. This vision depicts a world transformed by peace, in which instruments of war - swords - are reshaped into tools for cultivation - ploughshares. In this time, everyone will walk together in the light of the Lord. Isaiah's prophecy challenges us to remain awake and vigilant, always prepared for the unknown day when Jesus will return.

The first Sunday of Advent marks the beginning of a new liturgical year. This occasion presents a natural opportunity to think about resolutions for the year ahead. As we pray the Our Father, we are encouraged to pay special attention to the words "Thy kingdom come," letting them influence and shape our intentions and actions as we move into this new season.
